Earlier in May, the Indian Embassy in Cambodia issued an advisory for those travelling to Cambodia for jobs. The advisory warned Indian nationals about the risks associated with fraudulent job offers and urged caution when securing employment in the country. The Embassy also emphasized the importance of reporting any suspicious activities to ensure the safety and welfare of Indian citizens in Cambodia.
Recently, the Indian Embassy collaborated with Cambodian authorities to rescue 14 Indian nationals who were trapped in a cybercrime scam. The Embassy is working towards their swift repatriation to India and is committed to their well-being. In the past, the Embassy has facilitated the rescue and repatriation of over 650 Indian citizens who were victims of similar scams.
The advisory highlighted the presence of fake agents in the region, particularly in places like Dubai, Bangkok, Singapore, and India. These agents recruit Indian nationals for job opportunities in Cambodia and Southeast Asia, promising high salaries, hotel accommodations, return air tickets, and visa assistance. However, these job offers often turn out to be scams related to cybercrimes, call-center frauds, and cryptocurrency schemes.
To protect Indian nationals from falling victim to these scams, the Embassy urged job seekers to only engage with authorized agents approved by the Ministry of External Affairs. They also encouraged individuals to contact the Embassy in Phnom Penh for assistance and guidance on legitimate employment opportunities in the region. It is essential for Indian nationals to exercise caution and vigilance while considering job offers in Cambodia and to be wary of potential fraudulent schemes.
